Brewer

Bozeman, Montana

MAP Brewing Company is looking for a brewer to join our production team!

We are located in Bozeman, MT on a beautiful lake with mountain views.   We are also the largest self-distributing brewery in the state. We are able to do that because of incredible local support that allows us to sell all our beer close to home.   We are a tight production team that works and plays hard.  We believe taking care of our people is the most important thing because we know that work is not life.

Here are some things we believe makes MAP and this brewer position something we think you’d be a good fit for:

1) our production teams works four ten hour shifts, giving you three days every week to maximize the amazing area that we live in or spend more time with friends and family
2) you’ll get the chance to brew some of the state’s of Montana’s favorite beer*
3) pay is competitive – salary ranges from $40-50k/year, DOE
4) benefits include health, dental, vision and life insurance; plus a 401k with a 4% match after one year
5) unlimited PTO
6) free beers after work, free shift meals, free merch
7) day off discounts on beer and food for you and your fam
8) it’s fun to be part of a growing company with a stellar team*
* these things are our opinions, but we think you’ll agree.

Here’s more about the position:

THE BIG PICTURE:
The production team at MAP Brewing Company has the philosophy that our brewers do any and all non-administrative jobs required in the brewhouse and cellar. We find that this approach to our production team helps alleviate some of the monotony that can come along with beer production work. As we run with a relatively small team, it also helps everyone understand the bigger picture of the production schedule on any given day, and we find creates a more cohesive team. Therefore, the role of our Shift Brewer combines responsibilities across brewing, cellaring, and packaging. Shift brewers will spend one to three days a week assisting the Head Brewer in operating our 30-barrel, 2 vessel system, and then will spend the other days in any given week assisting with cellar tasks or with packaging, including running the canning line and filling kegs. In addition, our brewers are expected to take ownership over maintaining high standards of cleaning and sanitation throughout each day and each task they complete.

DAY TO DAY DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • Brewhouse operations including all aspects of wort production
    • This includes all aspects of brewing beer: milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, hop additions, whirlpool, wort cooling, yeast selection, pitching, and propagation, etc.
    • Ensure high standards of cleaning and sanitation for all pre- and post- brewing transfer lines and vessels
    • Work closely with Lead Brewer and the rest of the Production Team to achieve desired quality and consistency of wort
    • Using basic lab equipment in order to collect data during brewing process
    • Maintain accurate and thorough production records during brewing process
    • Multi-task when appropriate to ensure the team stays on the Production Schedule
  • Cellaring
    • Completing aseptic, tank to tank bulk beer transfers
    • Kegging and packaging, including working some shifts on the canning line
    • Performing various fermentation additions, including dry hopping and recirculating tanks
  • Cleaning and Maintenance
    • CIP of fermenters and brite tanks in accordance with company standard operating procedures (SOPs)
    • Washing kegs
    • Responsible for maintaining ongoing cleaning, organization, and maintenance of all beer production areas and equipment
    • Assisting with brewhouse organization, both inside and outside of the building
  • Fermentation and conditioning
    • Assist Production Manager in monitoring fermenting beer, checking tank statistics daily as needed
    • Carbonating beer to established specifications
  • Assist taproom staff as needed
    • Help moving kegs
    • Maintenance & repairs, etc

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
MAP Brewing Co. is a packaging brewery currently producing 8500+ bbls of beer per year. We generally brew 3 to 4 days a week on a 30 bbl, 2 vessel steam system into 30, 60 and 90 bbl tanks. We package into cans 2 to 3 times per week, and rack beer into kegs 3 to 4 days a week. The brewery can be very hot or very cold, often noisy and always potentially dangerous. Long hours on concrete floors with noise, steam, CO2, and dangerous chemicals all around. There is a lot of general cleaning and moving of heavy items such as malt sacks and kegs of beer. There is usually good music playing and the production team is fun and easy to work with.

HOURS/SHIFTS:
The production team generally works 4- 10s with flexible shifts both early and late. The Production Manager schedules the team around what the beer needs, not the other way around. However, every effort is made to accommodate personal schedule requests.

SALARY:
$40,000-$50,000 DOE

BENEFITS:
Health, Vision, Dental, and Life Insurance are available. 401k available after one year, matched up to 4%. Unlimited PTO.

FEELING LIKE THIS JOB IS CALLING YOUR NAME?!?!

We’d love to chat. Email doug@mapbrewing.com with your resume. No need to waste time on a cover letter, we’d rather just schedule a time to chat with you.

Head Brewer - Shred Monk Brewing

Bozeman, Montana

Shred Monk Brewing is an award-winning 7bbl brewery, restaurant, and coffee roaster in downtown Bozeman, Montana. We are looking for a creative, hard-working individual to lead our brewing operations to supply beer for our farm-to-table restaurant and our growing off-premise beer sales efforts.

SHRED MONK – THE COMPANY

At Shred Monk, we make beer, coffee, and food for people trying to better themselves by following their passion. Being based in Bozeman, Montana many people pursue their passion for mountain and outdoor sports; however, as a company we aim to be inclusive of all pursuits. For us, it’s not about the WHAT; it’s about the HOW. In that aim, we want to offer products that will energize our consumers and help them celebrate their accomplishments.

WHAT IS A SHRED MONK?

A Shred Monk is a person who pursues their passions with discipline and intention. Without the Shred, the Monk stays too introspective and doesn’t act. Without the Monk, the Shredder acts without thought or purpose. This is our Yin and Yang which we attempt to keep in constant tension and balance.

OUR CORE VALUES

BE BETTER – Ambition : Iteration : Discipline

We will push to be better today than we were yesterday – as people, as a brewery/restaurant/coffee roaster, as an employer, and as a member of the community. Our focus on constant iteration will lead to positive growth for the company and everyone in it.

EMBODY A MOUNTAIN PUNK ETHOS –  Question the Conventional : Thoughtful Disagreement : Truth Seeking

The world doesn’t need another run-of-the-mill brewery. We strive to be willing to break the mold, make things we love and empower the lifestyle of Shred Monks everywhere. We will seek to find better ways of doing things; better ingredients, better processes, and rewarding what works and tastes best – not simply relying on what is familiar.

MAKE POSITIVE CONNECTIONS – Humility : Community : Fun

Life is too short not to keep perspective, connect with others and have fun. While being driven to excel we will strive to maintain humility and inclusiveness; not elitism and high mindedness. Be humble and learn.  Make everyday count. Appreciate others along the way.

WORKING AT SHRED MONK

We are looking for a Head Brewer who embodies the values of Shred Monk and has a strong desire to get the best out of life while achieving growth in their career. We don’t believe in conventional job descriptions or overly index on prior experience – we want to empower people to excel at doing what they love. As a small company, we don’t have rigid roles – we all work together to get the job done – but we do have exacting standards and won’t settle even for above average. Average is forgettable in this industry. Above average will succeed locally, but won’t stand up elsewhere. We want to be world-class and stand out in quality and consistency while creating memorable products for those looking to get up and get after it every day. If that journey is one you want to embark on with other fellow Shred Monks, then we look forward to working alongside you.

OUR BEER and the EXPECTATIONS OF THE HEAD BREWER

As a brewery, we produce beers from across the beer style spectrum but focus primarily on two product lines: lower ABV beers and “celebratory” beers with higher ABV. The aim of our lower ABV beers is to offer our customers great tasting beer under 5% ABV – beers that won’t knock you off course in the pursuit of your passions and goals. This includes our 2022 Great American Beer Festival Bronze winning German Pilsner. For our higher ABV beers – those large format DIPAs, barrel-aged or funky beers you crack to celebrate big accomplishments – we expect the Head Brewer to use the same attention to detail required to brew an award-winning pils. We are looking for a brewer who is very keen on quality and process, regardless of beer style. We currently have a small lineup of core brands that we will expect the Head Brewer to continue to produce and refine on our 7bbl, 3-vessel brewing system. However, the Head Brewer will also be given creative freedom to develop and produce new core brands and rotators.

COMPENSATION

We will pay at the top end of market value for most positions in the company. If we expect world class quality, fellow Shred Monks should expect to be compensated at industry leading levels.

VACATION AND HOURS

Rest and recovery is integral to high-level performance. With this in mind, the Head Brewer position won’t have set limits on vacation days or hours. We want you to take care of yourself while still producing world class products. That dynamic is neither concrete nor static in nature and therefore should move with the goals we have and the amount of rest and recharging you need to meet those goals.

HEALTH INSURANCE & OTHER BENEFITS

Health insurance in a HDHP w/HSA will be covered by the company.  Beer and coffee will also be readily available .

Please email cover letter & resume to [email protected]
